Broke, Hunter Valley, NSW

It feels like it's been a while since I properly reviewed wine. That's my bad. Apologies to all! Broke is part of the larger Hunter Region. It's not heavily trafficked but there are some gems hiding here. Winmark is absolutely one of them. They are on the old Poole's Rock property and have set up with accommodation and sculptures. It's gorgeous. If you can visit one day, do it. They make only two wines, both of them Chardonnay. This is their entry level.
Ripper vintage in the region. And it shows. This has a really nice perfume - white peach, ruby grapefruit, bread dough, cashew and a little bit of a green mango thing going on. It's not tropical, but it has got a lot going on. Like a peacock tail unfurling and shimmering. This tastes so good too. It has some ripe citrus notes - lemon and orange - with nectarine, peach and almond, all carried by a creamy weight. The finish is a little bit waxy and pithy. It's so comforting in so many ways. It's the Chardonnay version of getting a hug or putting on a hoodie. I love it. And it's a great example of modern Hunter Chardonnay.

Have it with? I had this with buttery popcorn while ignoring my troubles and watching Netflix with my wife. It was a killer combo.
Classic, weird or funky? Classic. Refined.
