Multi-Regional, VIC
RRP$35

First of all, how is this the first time I have seen this pun on a wine label? Maybe it's a bit too on the nose. Anyway. Mayford is from the Alpine Valleys in northern Victoria. A hailstorm destroyed half of their vineyard in 2016, and some friends from Beechworth and Heathcote donated offered some of their shiraz to help. So, a multi-regional blend of shiraz.
The nose is quite mellow, but lovely. It broods, in its way. I can smell dark cherries, redcurrants and plums, as well as some rocky gravel, dried leaves. It is so well integrated and balanced that I would be happy smelling this for hours. Savoury palate, with pepper, pencil shavings, dark berries and dried raspberries. There is more acid than tannin, and this might turn a few people off but all in all it is a balanced and fresh wine, definitely a creature of finesse.

Have it with? A really nice stew would be so nice here.
Classic, weird or funky? Classic and friendly.
