Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia

Keith Tulloch is a big name in the Hunter. The cellar door is utterly gorgeous and the tasting room is on the upper level with a view of the vineyards. On a warm, sunny day it would be one of the nicest views and places to drink wine.
Textbook Semillon colour. Really pale, clear straw. The nose is fragrant, with ginger, lemongrass, lemon/lime and sugar cane pulp. It seems a have a bit of alcohol on the nose as well, with is odd given that's only 10.5%. Quite zippy on the palate, with lemon/lime again, river stone and orange blossoms. It's all quite textbook, really. But it does come alive with food - the acid is cleansing and some umami brings out some depth of flavour to it. Is it Hunter Valley Semillon? You betcha. But I'd like a bit more oomph at $30.
